Be courageous

And when we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard nor welcome, but when we are silent we are still afraid. So it is better to speak remembering we were never meant to survive.

Talk about serendipity. The past year has taken so much from me in terms of energy and time; when I feel depleted, I wonder what I am doing all of this for and whom, and how thankless it all is.

The quote couldn't have arrived at a better moment in my post-K life - 'tis better to speak out and fight for what you want than to regret it and hate yourself for not having the balls to demand positive change.

I've met so many wonderful people since Katrina (and it makes me cry happy tears when I think of them).

Hi Maitri. This is my like my little hidden drawer of magic things. Nice to see you here. I don't think many people find it, though it isn't terribly hard to find. Your talk about happy tears is one of the most remarkable and underappreciated stories about this whole ordeal -- the strengthening of community, not the weakening of it. I think of all the new people I've met, the new bonds that have been formed, the new starts that have been made, the more profound appreciation for the important things in life, and it all adds up to a better outlook for the future, even if it will be difficult to get there, people will be making the journey together -- and that is worth the journey.
