Make your own luck

Ozzie Guillen, manager of the 2005 World Series champion Chicago White Sox, has frequently been quoted saying, "It's better to be lucky than good."

Perhaps echoing Guillen's elaboration of the theme, White Sox catcher Chris Widger said, "We've heard that we are lucky, but I think you make your own luck."

Meanwhile, Chicago Sun-Times sports columnist Greg Couch improved upon the adage by saying it's better to be lucky and good:
The best teams always seem to have the best luck. You know why? Because you make your own luck, and even if you don't, then you make the most of what you got.
